BNP Paribas Wealth Management recently completed hosting the 2017 NextGen Experience, three global events aimed at providing education for ultra-high-net-worth, international Millenials, including the first-ever summit in North America. Each event, hosted from June through September in Paris, Hong Kong and Silicon Valley, focused uniquely on the challenges facing the next generation. The events brought together clients between the ages of 23 and 35 years, with invited attendees having global experience and preparing to take leadership positions in their family businesses or develop their own entrepreneurial ventures.
“At a time when intergenerational wealth transfer continues to grow exponentially, we are fully committed to continue to serve the needs of our Millennial investors. We will support them by offering them our full suite of industry-leading products and services, whether they choose to take on leadership roles in their family businesses worldwide, or purse their entrepreneurial passions.”

Paris: Inspiration for Investments
In June, BNP Paribas Wealth Management kicked off the NextGen Experience in Paris with the “Inspiration for Investments” event, focused on building knowledge and understanding of techniques to sustainably grow one’s wealth and business. By combining lectures on specialized topics such as real estate investment strategy or private equity, with active learning sessions, attendees developed new ways to add value to their business through investments, innovative business models and disruptive technologies. The attendees, about 30 NextGeners from 17 different countries, also had the opportunity to visit the world’s biggest startup campus Station F, and Ecole 42, a school based on peer-to-peer learning.
Hong Kong: Explore Personal, Family and Social Endeavor
Marking the 10th anniversary of the NextGen program in Asia, BNP Paribas also hosted the Hong Kong event, “Explore Personal, Family and Social Endeavors,” in June. The program invited emerging young leaders from ultra-high-net-worth families to embrace the fast-paced entrepreneurial spirit that has characterized the region and boasted a fast accumulation of wealth. Participants engaged in a series of workshops and discussions around three pillars: purpose-led businesses, family business legacy and entrepreneurial spirit. Sixteen high-powered speakers joined the different sessions and interactive panel discussions, delving into topics ranging from social investments to impact investing, growth hacking to unlocking entrepreneurial mindsets.

Silicon Valley: Innovation for Impact
For the first time in the event’s history, Bank of the West’s Wealth Management Group’s Family Wealth Advisers participated this year with an event titled “Innovation for Impact.” Bringing together attendees with some of the largest tech companies in Silicon Valley, the four-day event in September focused on three key themes: entrepreneurship, multi-generational family wealth and investing with purpose. The global attendee roster explored the lifecycle of an entrepreneur through a live pitch session, panel discussions and tours of a number of tech companies across the region. Sessions were recorded by a graphical note-taker, who provided attendees with takeaway materials in a unique format. Attendees served as judges during the pitch session, voting on the best start-up idea among participants. They also saw presentations by guest speakers like Ben Bingham, author of “Making Money Matter,” and sessions with local family offices and foundations.
