Bordering the Atlantic seaside and a lagoon, Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria and the commercial and industrial capital of the country.  The region suffers from enormous population growth and now has 9 million people. In the Makoko slum, built on the lagoon across from the modern city live 100,000 people without clean water, electricity or sanitation.

According to the United Nations:

  • In 2016, almost 65% of products exported by the least developed countries faced zero tariffs, an improvement of 20% since 2010.

  • Women are more likely than men to live below 50% of the media income.
